My top 10 Comedy movies

Comedy, for a large population, is the most popular genre of movies. It is easy to make someone cry, make someone love you, make someone hate you, but it is very difficult to make someone laugh. Everyone has got a burden of problems over his/her shoulders. A moment of laughter may not solve a person, but atleast help in facing the problem with a cool head. A nice comedy can serve as a great stress reliever. One would not mind to keep the brains outside the theater for a 2-3 hour fun ride. So here I come with my top 10 comedies of all times:

1) Andaaz Apna Apna: This is the best comedy of all times. A 3 hour fun ride. There isn't a single moment in which you would not laugh. It's the story of 2 guys, Amar and Prem, trying to woo a billionaire's daughter, Raveena Baja, who comes to India with her friend Karishma. There is Raveena's uncle who plays the villain, trying to kidnap Raveena to rob her father's money and there is Crime Master Gogo, from whom the uncle had taken loan. All these characters get mixed up in a comedy of errors. Catch the famous dialogues:

"Gum ka saathi, Rum"

"Woh jo hai, woh mai hu, mai jo hu, woh woh hai"

"Tum jo ho, woh tum nahi ho, woh woh hai, woh jo hai, woh woh nahi hai, woh tum ho, tum jo ho, woh tum nahi ho, woh jo hai, woh woh nahi hai, mai jo hu, mai mai hu, ya mai bhi woh nahi hu jo mai hu, mai kaun hu?"

"Mark idhar hai, mai teja hu!!! Yeh teja teja kya hai, yeh teja teja?"

"jab dil tut-ta hai, toh uska sidha asar dimaag pe parta hai"

It's a pity that the movie could not score at the box office, but has maintianed a cult status so far.

The best scene:

The kahani mein twist!

2) Jaane bhi do Yaaron: This is another great comedy movie. It is the story of 2 journalists, who being job less get stuck in the war between a woman who owns a press and couples of corrupt builders. It is the story of how the 2 get access to the corpse of the municipal commissioner, who has been killed by the builders, and the comedy of errors that follows when they decide to hand over the corpse to the police. Catch the dialouges:

"Thora khao, thora pheko"

"Business ka ek hi usool hota hai, dusre ka nuksan aur apna fayeda"

P.S.: The Mahabharat scene at the climax is something that you would never want to miss

Om Puri as Bheem: "Hum sab barabari ke share holders hai" (concerning Draupadi)

"Draupadi jaisi sati naari ko dekhkar maine chir haran ka Idea Drop kar diya hai"

The best scene:

This one will surely make you laugh!

3) Dhamaal: This is another classic comedy. In an age when most of the comedy movies relied on cheap vulgar dialogues, this one came out as a genuine comedy. It is a story of 4 guys and a police officer racing against each other, to get a hidden treasure. Do not miss the scenes where an aiplane is flown by an amateur and is instructed by an air traffic controller in a voice of an all India radio RJ; or when a south Indian tells his name for more than an hour.

Best scenes:

Aeroplane scene

Iyer!!!

4) Padosan: This one is a hilarious story of a guy, Bhola, who loves her neighbor. But he has a competition. Her dance master! Bhola has the support of his friend and eventually manages to win her.

Catch the song:

O meri pyaari bindu, o meri bindu re bindu, meri prem ki naiya beech bhawar me gur gur gothe khaye, jhatpat paar kara de

Memorable scene:

o meri pyaari bindu!

Too good isn't it?

5) Chupke Chupke: I am not going to tell the story. I can't :)
A hillarious comedy of errors.

agar award nahi mila toh reward zaroor mil jayega

Catch a scene here:

hahahaha!!!!

6) Mujhse Shaadi Karogi: Okay, this is a David Dhavan movie. But certainly the best from him. Age old story, 2 guys wooing one girl, but shown in a very comic way. Don't miss Akki's performance. :)

7) Chameli Ki Shaadi: This story is about a guy's struggle to marry his lady love, along with the support of his lawyer friend. Amrita Singh, Anil Kapoor and Amjad Khan at their comic best.

Catch this dialogue

Charan Das: aaj tum sach mein Chameli lag rahi ho!
Chameli: pehele kya lagti thi?
Charan Das: Churail!!!

Catch the scene:

pyaar kiya toh drna kya... :)

8) Dabangg: Okay, I agree it is not a full on comedy movie, but I classify it as a comedy movie. Every moment of this movie made me laugh. It is one of my favorite movies of all times.

Catch the dialogue:

Thappar se darr nahi lagta sahab, Pyaar se darr lagta hai

...itne chhed kar dunga ki conphuse ho jayoge ki saas kaha se le aur...

kamaal karte hai Pendey ji!!!

You have sen this recently, so no scenes to describe its greatness!

9) Dulhe Raja:  Story of  poor Raja opens a fast food restaurant right opposite a five star hotel run by its owner Singhania, earning his wrath. The wealthy hotel owner uses all his influence to remove Raja, but in vain. Things get worse for the wealthy man, when his daughter Kiran wants to marry the poor hotelier. The wealthy man refuses, leading to a confrontation and a condition - which Raja fulfills, he becomes rich virtually overnight, and proposes for the hand of Kiran. The wealthy hotelier reluctantly accepts him as his son-in-law, only to have Kiran elope with a man named Rahul.

10) Pyaar ke Side Effects: Sid and Trisha fall in love, then something happens leading to their "break up". They decide to be "Just Friends". But Love helps Sid overcome his "Commitment Phobia" and they get together. Trisha runs away from her marriage with Sid, but Sid is still concerned about his 12 year old bag. :P

Catch the dialogues:

jaise loha lohe ko kaat-ta hai, ek ladki ka diya hua dard dusri ladki hi duur kar sakti hai!

Here is the best scene:

This one is just awesome :)

A new genre called "ComTra"...!

There is a new genre being created. We have had Comedy, Tragedy, Romance, Sex, Action, Sci-Fi, Horror, Drama etc. Then we had Rom-Coms, where art was an ensemble mix of Romance and Comedy. Rom-Com movies were a good change, from the typical romantic movies, that were rich in gloss and fantasies. Likewise there were several combinations being made, but any 2 genres that were combined were quite related to each other.

But ever heard of 2 genres, completely opposite, being combined? These days a new combo has arrived. The combo has a mixture of Comedy and Tragedy. Sounds really strange, right?

But I have felt this genre to be the best of all. It is here, where you learn to take tragedy with a sense of humour.
There is an age old song:

Uthe sab ke kadam,
Tararumpum,
Kabhi aise geet gaaya karo,
Kabhi khushi Kabhi ghum,
Tararumpum,
Haso aur hasaya karo!

Life is an ensemble mix of Tragedy and Comedy. We have good times, we have bad times. During bad times, we have our good times to support us. During our good times, our bad times keep us grounded, and prevent us from being carried away.

Thus the new combo, what to call it? Trag-Com, Com-Trag or say TraCom or ComTra?

I prefer ComTra. These days new age songs have come with cheeky lyrics (almost all composed by Amitabh Bhattacharya). His first hit was the 'Emosanal Attayachar'

'Tauba tera Jalwa, Tauba tera Pyaar, Tera Emosanal Attayachar'

Sounds comic, isn't it? But it depicts Tragedy as well.

Now we still have a week to go. Delhi Belly going to release. Shit Happens!

The DK Bose song has been playing in my head ever since I first heard it.

"Piddi jaisa chuha, duum pakra toh nikla kaala Naag"

These words teach us not to have high expectations from life. I'm eagerly waiting for 1st July. Delhi Belly is surely be a classic example of ComTra. :)

Shit Happens!!! :D

A decision... to stay happy, and I succeed! :)

It has been a while since I last posted... My system's hard disk had crashed, along with few other things, but now I realized, things never crash. Once something is airborne, remains airborne forever. I started a new chapter. Yes, i guess you got it, the easiest way. Change your company. I joined a new company. A MNC bank. It had its set of turnoffs. No camera phones (in short smart phones) allowed inside, Windows XP, Office 2003, Lotus notes etc etc etc. But something inside the premises helped me overcome all these things. Since i am not allowed to take pictures inside, I cant post stuff in this post. I can present a picture, though. It's a big wing, a large one, no barriers between teams/departments. Nice pictures on walls. Free flowing coffee (i just lovvveeee coffee), tea and mirindaaaaaaaaaa!!! And Bellandur! The eateries, ahaaa, best :)
I took my induction gang to Brewberries (my fav). It was a 10 min walk. People were frustrated walking. But I assured them, the food will make up for it... And it did! :)

My team has good people. I am finding my feet again. I am able to forget my past. I am able to forget people who have not taken me seriously. I focus on a new set of people who i think will take me seriously, without me changing myself, too an extent (I am willing to change, though, to any extent possible)... I look forward to a new life, but whatever happens, I have decided to stay happy... Always :)
